“Do your work right, and it will be timeless.” —Jim Collins, author
This is a quote I’ve carried with me for so many years I can’t count. It’s a coffee-stained, marked-up piece of paper that reminds me of the lasting impact organizations have on people — professionally and personally. As I’ve continued to meet members of the HRMAC community, I am constantly reminded of the impact the organization has had in many of your paths as HR leaders. The founders of HRMAC did their work right when they established this community more than 100 years ago.
HRMAC has and will continue to convene HR professionals for networking and educational opportunities to learn from experts and peers. All enterprises go through periods of change, or periods of reinvention, that include innovating from the inside and evolving to meet future as well as present needs. I certainly don’t have to explain why this is more important than ever to HRMAC members: You’re on the front lines working to strengthen Chicago organizations through talent.
As your professional home, HRMAC strives to support you in your work by offering:
- A welcoming, inclusive community of practitioners and suppliers who share thought leadership and wisdom;
- Networking and knowledge exchange; and,
- Timely and relevant opportunities for life-long learning and professional growth.
How are we doing this?
We’re relentlessly focused on growing membership and are pleased to have welcomed nearly 70 new companies since June 2018. We hosted SUMMIT 2018 at Navy Pier and have reimagined our signature Leadership Series as a forum for insights, discussion, solutions – the newly named Leadership Forum. Other accomplishments of the last year have included the recruitment of a full class of participants for the Future Leaders Cohort in 2019; the introduction of HRMAC Reads, an HR community book club; and, the launch of a new website and digital publication designed to bring you HR trends and research. And we’re not done.
The Board of Directors recently met to envision HRMAC in 2025. There’s no doubt of more change in our future and I look forward to sharing updates with you as we carve the path forward. In the meantime, I invite you to share your feedback with us. Consider the following questions and tell us what you think by emailing future@HRMAC.org:
- What is most important to you now?
- What do you envision the HR profession to be in 2025?
- How can HRMAC help you and other HR professionals be instruments of change?
- If HRMAC were formed today, what could it offer to make it indispensable for field professionals? For the greater Chicago area?
I’d like to close with another quote that I’ve carried with me over the years, an African proverb:
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
We’re in this together — the board, volunteers, staff, HR professionals, Chicago-area organizations and the workforce that contributes to their success. I look forward to what a new year brings.
